Participant Success – Cleaner
- Program Objective -
The “Virtual Skill for Employment Preparation Program (VSTEP) is designed to reduce the unemployment rate of Young Adults, aged 17 – 29, facing significant barriers to Employment.
- Training Plan Development -
Participant worked with the Employment specialist (ES) and did some extensive vocational assessments, individualized pre-employment sessions, career and personality assessments. Occupational research identified industry clusters to research discovering employment specific areas best suited to accommodate Participant challenges and needs. Results: Cleaning/Building Maintenance.
It was agreed that the participant attend the Building Service worker (BSW) Program through the University of the Fraser Valley with costs covered through the Program budget. Participant completed this program online within 3 months.
- Supports Provided -
Building Service worker (BSW) Program cost was covered. A planner was purchased for the participant to help them keep up with their work schedule. Upon completing the BSW program, ES went through some basic resume, cover letter and interview workshops with the participant. ES also assisted the participant with job search coaching including identifying and contacting cleaning companies.
- Results -
Participant is approaching 3 months of employment and stated that they are enjoying the job and the people they are working with. Participant has been learning new things daily and thinks that this type of work will likely be a lifelong career.
